Cheating school pupils caught out

-

A DICTIONARY never lies – or does it?

During a mock exam for pupils sitting the National Evaluation in Romania last year, online dictionary site DEX noticed a spike in searches for certain words, causing exam administrators to become suspicious.

This year the dictionary site looked at what the most searched words were during the hours of 9am and 11am, when the practice paper was taking place, and decided to change their definitions.

Two of the words were in the paper, but the third word – treachery – wasn’t actually mentioned in the exam.

Instead, it had been used by a Romanian author in a blog post that morning.

Cheaters never prevail – and the other users of the online dictionary would just have been thoroughly confused.
