MORTON 0 DUNFERMLINE 1 Wedderburn (16)

-

MORTON fell just one game short of equalling Celtic’s record of being the only Scottish side to go unbeaten at home in all competitions in a calendar year.

It was the first time the Greeno ck faithful had witnessed their side suffer defeat at Cappielow since March 26, 2016.

Morton had the first chance after just seven minutes when Ross Forbes swung the ball over from the left but Lee Kilday failed to direct his header on target.

However, the Pars, without a league win at Cappielow since April 2013, took the lead after 16 minutes.

Kallum Higginbotham fired over an outswinging corner from the right which was dropped by keeper Derek Gaston. Nicky Clark was first to react and turned the ball back for Nat Wedderburn to tap home from a yard out.

Such was his delight in scoring his first for the club and only the fourth of his career, he was booked for over celebrating.

Morton had the chance to level in 27 minutes when a pass from Mark Russell was chested on by Lawrence Shankland, but the striker hooked wide from 16 yards.

Morton brought on Ricki Lami at the interval for the injured Kilday, and he almost had an immediate impact, but drove wide of the far post.

Dunfermline always posed a threat and might have got a second in 55 minutes when Wedderburn and John Herron linked well to find Clark lurking 20-yards out, but his thunderous drive was tipped past by Gaston.

Seconds later, at the other en d , Pa r s ke e p e r Se a n Murdoch produced an even better save to touch a longrange effort by Andy Murdoch over the bar.

Callum Morris had the ball in the net for the Fifers in 74 minutes with a header from a Higginbotham corner, but the ref chalked it off.
