Billy bidding for silverware on two fronts
BILLY GILMOUR will hope to put all talk of his future to one side by leading Rangers to an age-level cup double over the next ten days.
The Light Blues prodigy has been strongly linked with a £650, 000 switch to English Premier League giants Chelsea in the summer.
However, with all sides insisting nothing has yet been agreed, his priority has been to focus on his football.
And while at 15 years old he is still too young to feature for the first team, there is a busy time ahead with the youths.
On Thursday night Rangers U-17s tackle Celtic in the Glasgow Cup Final at Firhill Stadium.
Then, on Wednesday week, the U-20s again have an Old Firm derby to contend with when they play in the Scottish Youth Cup Final at Hampden.
Gilmour has played at both levels this season but with doubts remaining over whether he will still be with the club next week, it could be the coaches opt to leave him on the sidelines.
Graeme Murty, manager of the U20s, is on record stating his admiration for the promising midfielder.
First-team boss Pedro Caixinha has, meanwhile, been singing the praises of 18-year-old Myles Beerman who has been holding down the left-back jersey for Rangers. “Myles is a good lad,” he said. “He is the type who needs you to give him confidence, your trust, who is also asking for more from me in terms of my analysing his performance the areas of the game in which he needs to improve.
“I like those type of players, guys who are committed to getting on the pitch and knowing what he needs to know in all situations.
“To know their opponent and what they can do. Let me tell you, Jonny Hayes and Niall McGinn are not easy attackers to face and try and stop but Myles did very well against them.
“His position at set-pieces was good too, he had extra responsibility at corners. But he likes to receive more, to learn more. He is committed and focused and I like that.”
