Even more escapes? Gimme a break

-

prison Break (fox, mon)

I loved Prison Break when Channel 5 started showing it 12 years ago.

It was nonsense, but compelling viewing all the same.

It told the story of two brothers, genius Michael Scofield and small-time criminal, Lincoln Burrows.

Burrows was facing the death sentence for a crime he didn’t commit, so Michael got himself locked up in order to help Lincoln break out of prison – all done with the help of the jail’s blueprints, handily tattooed all over Michael’s body.

The first series was edge-ofthe-seat stuff and the second series, after they had escaped and were on the run, wasn’t too bad, either.

It was a case of diminishing returns from then on and it was cancelled after the fourth series.

As Michael was killed off, this really did seem to be the end.

But eight years after the last series, Prison Break is back for a nine-episode return and all of the familiar faces are back – including Michael.

It’s not been explained yet just how that can be and judging by some of the dodgy dialogue in the first episode, we’re unlikely to get a logical reason.

I’ll stick it out since there are so few episodes, but sometimes old shows should remain locked up in the vaults rather than being given another chance.

Bates motel (universal, tue)

The modern-day prequel to Psycho returned for what is, sadly, its final series last week.

Having killed Mother at the end of the last series, Norman has slipped into complete insanity and we know it’s not going to end well.

Boasting what is very likely the best ensemble group of actors on the box, this creepy and taut show deserves a wider audience.
