BRITAIN’S Dom Inglot won the seventh ATP doubles title of his career as he successfully teamed up with Mate Pavic of Croatia in Morocco yesterday.

The pair beat Spanish second seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez 6-4 2-6 11-9 in the final of the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech.

Inglot (above), 31, has now won at least one title each year since 2012.

Pavic, 23, is Inglot’s third ATP doubles partner of 2017 after Florian Mergea and Robin Haase.

The new pairing also knocked out third seeds Rohan Bopanna and Marcin Matkowski in the second round of the clay-court event.

THE Hare’s Ear pattern now comes in many guises. But this one, the Peach Tail Hare’s Ear, adds a modern twist to the good old tried-and-tested original fly.

The hook is a size-12 Kamasan B175 and the tying thread is red UTC 70. The tail is peach marabou, and the body is a mix of hare’s ear and Ice Dubbing, ribbed with copper tinsel.

WELL done to Alec Bowler, winner of the Troutmasters qualifier, fished on the Boathouse Pool at Forbes of Kingennie, near Broughty Ferry.

Alec had a terrific catch of two fish for 4lb and returned a further 18.

ANGLING

The Boathouse also produced great sport for Jock Leslie, who returned 17 fish, taken mainly on Dries. Mr Lafferty took four fish for 16lb, including a nice rainbow which weighed 8lb 12oz.

The Burnside Pool also produced some stunning results with Mr McLelland returning 33 fish, Mr Galloway returned 32, and Ken Jones returned 15 fish, including two superb rainbows estimated at 8lb and 5lb.

Liam Kirk also found the correct method on the day to return 14 fish, whilst Mr Anderson took two for 8lb 8oz, including a lovely blue weighing 6lb.

BADMINTON

ALEX DUNN and Eleanor O’Donnell are one win away from the mixed doubles gold medal at the European Junior Championships 2017 in Mulhouse.

The young Scotland stars defeated Poland’s top seeds Pawel Smilowski and Magdalena Swierczynska 19-21 21-14 22-20 in yesterday’s first match on semi-finals day and the victory meant Dunn bettered his bronze medal with Adam Hall at the 2015 Europeans in Lubin.

Coach Robert Blair said: “Alex and Eleanor showed great steel and determination to come from behind to win 22-20 in the decider.

“The contest was focused on serve and receive, which made it difficult to get rhythm. A tight first set was lost, before a dominant second was easily won.

“The Polish looked to have taken control of the third before Eleanor went on a strong serving run to put them in front. They let two match points slip before finishing well on the third.”

CURLING

DEFENDING champion Eve Muirhead (below) scraped through to the quarter-finals at the Players Championship in Toronto. Fellow Scot Kyle Smith joined her there after stunning Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs.

Muirhead was facing elimination after losing three of her first four Group B matches, but she rallied to beat Winnipeg’s Michelle Englot 8-6 despite blowing an early 5-0 lead. Other results went her way too, so the world bronze medallist will now play Olympic champion Jennifer Jones, who she defeated 7-3 on Wednesday, in the last eight.

Smith continued his breakthrough season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Jacobs, and even an 8-6 extra-end defeat to Swiss skip Peter de Cruz could not deny him a quarter-final spot and a re-match with Jacobs.
