HORIZONS, BURNTISLAND

-

1 LOCATION

Sitting between Burntisland and Kinghorn on the Fife coast, Horizons restaurant is part of The Bay hotel, caravan park and leisure centre. Visitors to the restaurant can enjoy stunning views across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh.

2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Light, airy and spacious – a good choice if you have a buggy with you, or wheelchair users in your group. There’s a ramp up to the main restaurant area, too. The bar area is doing a roaring trade for a Saturday lunchtime!

3 SERVICE

On the whole, pretty good. Staff are attentive and friendly but there’s a big party of us and our order takes a while to arrive.

4 MENU

There’s a lunchtime menu, which has traditional pub-food favourites such as steak pie, battered haddock and mac & cheese. There are also pasta dishes, salad and a couple of veggie choices.

5 TASTE

A few of us have gone for steak pie and we all agree it’s great. In fact, all of us are impressed with our choices, except for one fusspot who ordered chicken goujons with BBQ sauce as a starter. They arrive smothered in sauce – a too generous helping of sauce. A wee pot of it on the side would work better, as it’s overpowering served plonked on top of the chicken.

6 PRICE

Around £8 for a burger and £9.75 for steak pie. Sides are about £2.50 each, puddings £5.50. Around average for the area.

7 AMBIENCE

It’s a big space, but lively. There are lots of families here and it’s obviously child-friendly – and occasionally noisy! It’s got a relaxed feel to it.

8 SOMETHING SPECIAL

That view really is something else – superb. But the Saturday night menu is good if you like something a bit different. Main choice courses include beef Wellington and pan-fried breast of pheasant. Two courses are £21.50.

9 TOILETS

Clean and reasonably spacious.

10 VERDICT

A decent pub lunch in spacious surroundings, with a glorious view. 15/20
