training ground. A corner kick was rolled into the near post and flicked into the path of Stevie Smith.

The Killie captain’s powerful shot was parried by Remi Matthews, into the path of Sammon and he hammered home from four yards.

The next goal arrived in the 23rd minute. This time it was a long throw-in from Luke Hendrie, flicked on by Kris Boyd for the onrushing Jones and he connected sweetly on the volley to drill home from eight yards.

Credit to Sammon and Jones. Both played in the wide areas and they supported Boyd. More importantly, they put in the required shift when it came to defensive duties to help their full-backs.

Hamilton enjoyed plenty of the ball but they found it difficult to penetrate the Killie back line.

Canning made three changes in the second half to mix things up. His side put in a proper shift but there just wasn’t enough quality in the final third.

They are still in the relegation mix and Canning said: “I think it is going to go right down to the wire. We have a massive game at Inverness next weekend.”
