Perfecting your red carpet pose

- By Eve Conroy

POSING for the camera can be daunting. But it doesn’t have to feel like an ordeal, no matter how camera-shy you are. This how-to guide from our sister publication, No.1 Magazine, will ensure you look the part in every picture ...

The three-quarter turn

STANDING straight on to the camera makes you look bigger than you are, as your shoulders are your widest part. To slim your silhouette, turn your feet so your body is facing 45 degrees away from the camera. Then turn your upper body back towards the camera a few degrees. Make sure your weight is on your back foot and bend your front knee so that foot is pointed. This gives you a trim waist – and long legs. By turning one shoulder away from camera, you are slimming the width of your body.

The ankle cross

SIMPLY crossing your ankles instantly makes your legs look longer and leaner, while giving the impression that you aren’t trying too hard. Shift your weight on to your back foot, bend your front knee up and mix it with a hand on your hip.

The face

WE all want to avoid the dreaded double chin but lifting your head up is not the best way to go about it. Instead, push your whole face forward away from your body and then tilt your chin down slightly. This will really define your jawline in photos. Also, don’t look straight to the camera. Turn slightly to one side to show off your jawline. This will instantly slim your features.

The lean back

VICTORIA Beckham’s signature stance. Turn 45 degrees away from the camera, point out your toe with the leg closest to camera and then lean your shoulders back. Make sure to keep your chin down and not lean your head back with the rest of your body. This gives the illusion of super-long legs.

The teapot

A favourite with celebs such as Decline And Fall star Eva Longoria, left, and a lifesaver when you don’t know what else to do with your hands. Lifting your arms away from your body makes your arms look leaner and more defined. Put your hand on your natural waistline and relax your shoulders. For maximum impact, try with both arms.
