When your favourite food bites the dust ...

-

AN Irish woman stockpiled more than 1000 boxes of potato waffles after Birdseye pulled the products from shelves in Australia and New Zealand. Shipments from the southern hemisphere ended in April after the company discontinued the product. And one dedicated Irish mum living in Victoria wanted to buy them up before they ran out. We asked our Email Jury what foodstuff they could not live without. And was there one discontinued product they would like to see brought back?

Hardly exciting, but I need potatoes. So versatile from a side dish to a main course. Comfort food and great in the winter – I love them! Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh.

The toffee and mallow chocolates in Black Magic. They were just mouth-watering. Elizabeth O’Regan, Lincoln.

I couldn’t live without ginger biscuits! Ginger nuts, branded or supermarket, chocolate- covered ginger, chewy or crunchy... I just love them all! Joan Fordyce, Forfar.

I can’t start the day without my usual big bowl of porridge. Properly salted and loads of milk. David Coss, Cumbria.

Cadbury’s Hot Chocolate. I don’t drink tea or coffee and although there are many hot chocolate brands on the market, none of them taste as good as Cadbury’s. I may not have one every day, but when I do it’s got to be the best. Susan Ireland, Kendal.

Creme Eggs should be available all year round. Steven Smith, via email.

The Vesta meals take us back to our teenage years. When my husband and I got married we loved Rum Babas from a frozen food store and they are divine. Judi Martin, Aberdeenshire.

Granny’s Tomato Soup was so warming and tasty in the winter. It was more enjoyable than home-made tomato soup. Bea Smith, Doncaster.

My favourite food is ice-cream. I couldn’t live without it and I’m always on the lookout for new flavours. I also wish Black Magic chocolates were like they used to be – strawberry and orange creams and caramel and marzipan. Nowadays they are awful and all taste the same! You can tell I have a sweet tooth! Margaret Gibb, Fife.
