Shaun would be a great asset to bag
ABERDEEN and Hibs have been credited with interest in bringing Shaun Maloney back to Scottish football.
Robert Snodgrass has played with the 34-year-old for both Hull City and Scotland.
He believes the diminutive attacking midfielder would be a huge signing – and not just on the pitch.
“Shaun is the type who wants to train and play every day,” says Snodgrass of the man who’s out of contract this summer.
“I didn’t realise what his hunger for the game was like until I played with him.
“He’s a great lad to have about the place. He’s such a good professional, it was a delight to play with him.
“You can see why he’s still playing in the Premier League at his age.
“That’s just his character. He will probably have a good few teams wanting to take him.
“People would like to have his experience and his CV at their club.
“Shaun was still the best player in training when I was at Hull. He was marvellous, so sharp.
“It’s as if he’s had the same sharpness from the first day I saw him.
“He’s playing with young whippersnappers – but he’s still got it.”
Maloney, who was just 18 when he made his Celtic debut in an Old Firm match in 2001, has a wealth of experience, and Snodgrass expects him to make full use of that when he finally decides to hang up his boots.
“Shaun will be thinking about the future, and for me he has always been destined for management or coaching,” says Snodgrass.
“Whoever gets him is inheriting a little gem.
“He’s unbelievable in the way he calls games, and the way he speaks about games. He’s a breath of fresh air
“Someone like Shaun would be great to have about the place.
“He’d drive young lads forwards and tell them what it’s all about.
“If he was to come back to Scotland, first he’s got a few years left to make an impression as a player.
“If you’ve got a chance to get him as a player or manager then get him. He’s magnificent.”
