Winger is still waiting for Pedro talks
BARRIE McKAY has denied he is holding Rangers to ransom over a new contract.
The winger admits to feeling confused about the messages coming out of Ibrox about his future.
Last weekend manager Pedro Caixinha said he wanted to know Mackay’s intentions within seven days. However, the 22-year-old says no further talks have taken place.
He rejected an offer to extend his current deal – which still has a year to run – just as Mark Warburton was leaving.
The player said: “This is where I want to stay. It’s a big club and despite having ups and downs, I’ve enjoyed every minute at Rangers.
“I’ve read stuff that’s said because I’ve not signed, I must want away. It’s not like that, but the fans might read it like that.
“That’s definitely not the case and it’s important that they know the truth. “I’m not in a rush to go anywhere. “It’s not as if I want out. I want to be playing here and it’s up to me to make sure that happens.
“My agent spoke to the club a while ago, but they haven’t come back to us again since then. It’s up to them now.
“When they first spoke to my agent, the previous manager was still here. And when they sent an offer, the new manager had come in.
“It took a while and since we got back to them, nothing’s happened.
“It can get a bit confusing but I can’t let it get inside my head. I just need to focus on my football.”
The Scotland internationalist is at pains to point out that he has no problem with the new Rangers manager, despite his playing time being limited recently.
He went on: “It was great to know the former manager had faith in me. He put a lot of confidence in me.
“The new gaffer has done that as well. Obviously I want to be playing, but I’m a pretty chilled guy so I don’t get too disheartened.
“I’m still relatively young and I know I’ve got a long way to go before I’m a complete player.
“I’ve spoken to the manager briefly about my future but he just wants us to sit down and have a chat at some point.
“It’s not a distraction for me. This is my fourth contract and these things usually take a bit of time.”
