PIZZA HUT, DUNDEE

-

LOCATION

It’s never going to win any awards for the prettiest of locations – slap in the middle of Dundee’s Kingsway Retail Park. It’s surrounded by shops, other restaurants and a giant car park.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The unlovely location is certainly not putting people off. It’s a busy, bustling Thursday. It’s nearly all families with kids, with some couples here and there. Busy, noisy and has a buzz about it.

SERVICE

It isn’t especially fast. But it’s friendly and our waitress knows the menu.

MENu

Extensive with something for everyone – well, particularly if you like pizza! There’s a lunchtime buffet menu which seems especially popular. There are a couple of decent platters for sharing and some good sides and starters.

TASTE

The pepperoni pizza is nice but you wouldn’t rush to tell your friends and family to order it. Starters and sides are better, with the jalapeno poppers crunchy and tasty – we could eat more of these. The salad bar is good, but just as we’re about to choose pasta salad, a toddler scoops his hand in and takes some. Call us fussy, but that put us off!

PRICE

That unlimited lunchtime buffet menu is £6.99 for adults and under a fiver for kids. No wonder it’s popular. A pepperoni feast pizza is £10.25 and those jalapeno poppers are £4.75.

AMBIENCE

There are lots of kids. So it’s noisy and lively with music playing. We wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic evening, but if you want somewhere you can take the kids and relax, it’s great.

SOMETHING SPECIAL

Check out the website before you go for special deals. Ending today is a 2 for 1 on main courses. If you’re watching your weight, there’s a range of under-600 calorie options. They’re flatbreads so they don’t have the stodginess of a pizza but they’re pretty good if you want a healthy option.

TOILETS

OK. Clean but small.

VERDICT

Nice enough if you want a cheap deal. But staff need to police the salad bar a bit better! 14/20
