Slashing victim refuses to identify attacker

-

UNDERWORLD slashing victim St ev e n ‘B o n z o’ Daniel has refused to tell police who carried out the attack that is reported to have cost him an eye.

Police Scotland is treating the assault as an attempted murder, part of a chain of tit- for- tat attacks between Glasgow’s two most prominent crime families, the Lyons and the Daniels. The force is now braced for more gang violence.

Senior police sources have confirmed that while officers have gone through the motions of trying to interview cab-driver Daniel about the assault, as he recovers in hospital, he has refused to co-operate.

One source said: “It’s the way they do things. They don’t want to be labelled grasses, they don’t want to help the police solve anything, even an attempt on their life, and they prefer to deal with it in their own way, which means more violence.”

The source added that there are serious concerns over the increased use of firearms in the last year or so in gangland attacks, particularly as a number of victims have been targeted outside schools.

He said: “If they continue to take revenge and to shoot one another, it’s just a matter of time before an innocent party gets caught in the crossfire.”

Officers are uncertain whether more guns are being smuggled into Scotland through the M74 corridor.
