Wait is over for Taylor as Davies date is set

COMMONWEALTH superlightweight champion Josh Taylor and Ohara Davies will finally meet in the ring in Glasgow after trading insults on social media for months.

The undefeated pair will lock horns for Londoner Davies’ WBC Silver title at the Braehead Arena on July 8, with the fight to be broadcast on Channel 5.

Taylor’s management team Cyclone Promotions confirmed the bout in a Tweet just days after the Tartan Tornado’s trainer Shane McGuigan claimed that a £ 70,000 offer from Ohara’s promoter Eddie Hearn was ‘peanuts’ and a ‘laughable offer’.

Taylor racked up a ninth straight win when he retained his Commonwealth

belt with a sixth- round stoppage of South African Warren Joubert at Meadowbank in March.

‘ Two Tanks’ Davies has won all 15 of his bouts, his latest victory coming against the experienced Derry Matthews two months ago.

There has been no love lost between the pair on Twitter and Davies claimed last week that he was even flying to Scotland to search for Taylor and give him a pen to sign a contract for the fight.

Reacting to news of the boxing contest being confirmed, Taylor said: “Found my pen mate. ITS ON!!! Me Vs Ohara Davies July 8th at Braehead arena. Can’t wait for this.”

Davies said: “Josh Taylor and I have been going at it on social media for quite a few months but compared to me, he’s a nobody. His biggest win was against a washed- up Dave Ryan who came to lose.”

Writing on Twitter earlier this year about Davies, Taylor said: “Your a moron mate. You called me out after my last fight then went quiet when I responded! Can’t wait to flatten you ya fraud.”
