Baywatch turns funny
Pamela Anderson is playing it for laughs.
IWAS a little confused when I heard they were going to be remaking Baywatch.
The first member of the cast announced was man mountain Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
He doesn’t look anything like Pamela Anderson – apart from perhaps in the pecs department!
Dwayne is actually playing Mitch Buchanan, a role made famous by David Hasselhoff back in the ’90s.
Big Dwayne, who has arms that look like the cables that hold up the Forth Road Bridge, is teaming up with High School Musical Hunk Zac Ephron.
With the amount of time those two wander around shirtless they were the ideal choice! If they ever decide to do a Scottish version of Baywatch they could call it Taps Aff. Baywatch is out next Friday in the UK, and I got a sneak preview — this version is very silly with lots of very goodlooking people running around with intense look on their face, in slow motion. So far, so like the original!
The difference is this new version is playing it for out-and-out laughs.
The original was widely mocked but despite taking itself very seriously everyone was in on the joke.
Alexandra Paul was one of the lifeguards who sported a skimpy red bathing suit back in the day.
I caught up with her – which was easy as she was running in slow motion – last week ahead of the premiere to ask her about the classic show.
Despite it being more than 20 years from her peaks…sorry, I mean peak, as Lieutenant Stephanie Holden, Alexandra was looking fantastic.
We visited Malibu beach, where Baywatch was filmed, and for Alexandra, who’s now a fitness coach, it brought back a lot of memories for her.
“It was wonderful working on that show, and California is so beautiful but we all have aspirations to do other things,” she told me as we wandered along the shoreline.
“After Baywatch I starred in 30 movies but now in my career I’m excited to broaden and to help people get healthier.”
Pamela Anderson was looking fantastic at the premiere in Miami.
“I’m just so happy the brand is still alive, I signed a lot of CJ dolls!” she said. “People love it all around the world.”
