Do home comforts beat foreign trips?

-

PASSENGERS at Heathrow have been forced to travel without their luggage after a problem with the baggage system. We asked our Email Jury if they would rather “staycation” in Britain than go through the hassle of flying off to an exotic location. And what was their favourite ever holiday?

We like doing both, but when we are going abroad we prefer being there than getting there! Judi Martin, Aberdeenshire.

I don’t travel abroad anymore. I feel I’m too old for the hassle. My wife and I have rented a cottage in Lennel, near Coldstream, for the past eight years and the experience gets better each time because we can take our dogs. David Hillerby, Durham.

I now stick to the smaller airports – hassle free! My favourite holiday was a once-ina-lifetime trip to China to see the Three Gorges before the new dam was finished. We climbed the Great Wall, had a five-day sail down the Yangtse and saw the Terracotta Warriors. Elizabeth O’regan, Lincoln.

Holidays are for rest and relaxation. Being stuck in an airport due to delays or lost luggage is certainly not that so I think staycations are a good thing. Scotland is very beautiful so why spend a fortune on going abroad? Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh.

I’m at the age now where, apart from flying to Bermuda to see family and friends, if I want to go abroad on holiday I’ll do it by train. Eurostar to Brussels, and then an InterRail pass to wherever. London to Brussels, city centre to city centre two hours – beat that Ryanair and Easyjet! Davie Kerr, Lochaber.

We love doing cruises and always have a backpack with some clothes just in case a baggage disaster happens. A cruise to the Caribbean for our 40th anniversary was my favourite holiday. Linda Cox,

Aberdeen.

We still love to travel abroad although we know that over 90% of the time, flights are delayed between 20 minutes to an hour. What happened at Heathrow does not happen on a regular basis. Jean-Claude Huntzinger, Lochgelly.

I would rather stay at home. Nowadays, flying is extremely stressful with delays, security checks and lost luggage, not to mention crowds and queues. Liz Kelly, Glasgow.
