Ripper Street
BBC2, 9pm, Monday
The history of this period crime series has more ups and downs than many TV dramas.
The first run aired in 2012 and 2013 on BBC One and looked like being a huge success. However, when the second series suffered poor viewing figures, the Beeb decided to ditch it.
However, it was picked up by Amazon Prime Video and the adventures of Edmund Reid, Bennet Drake and Homer Jackson have continued to debut on the streaming service before being repeated by the Beeb.
Unfortunately, this fifth season really is its last.
It picks up directly after the events of its predecessor; Bennet Drake is dead and his friends won’t be attending his funeral because they’re on the run. Can they unmask the serial killer stalking Whitechapel’s streets before they’re caught?
