IT was heart-warming

to hear Butch Harmon talk during Sky Sports’ coverage of just wanting Tiger Woods to be able to sort his life out, never mind playing golf. That is classic Butch. He has a great human touch and has never shown any bitterness towards Tiger after their partnership ended.

Those pictures of Woods being arrested in Florida would have hurt him immensely. He has always treated his ex-pupil like a son. But that’s how he is with all the players he coaches.

What sums up Butch best for me is that he flew over from Las Vegas to attend a recent memorial service for John Jacobs.

He was in tears as he gave a five-minute eulogy, talking about what an impact John had on his career, and returned to America the very next day. That is a great reflection of Butch’s character.
