THE Poacher is a very old Scottish brown trout wet fly that also works extremely well for rainbows when fished as a top dropper.

The hook is a size-12 Kamasan B175 and the tying thread is black UTC 70. The tail is orange cock fibres and the tag orange Glo-Brite floss.

Peacock herl is used for the body, the rib is silver wire and it is finished with a Greenwell’s hen hackle.

THE Goth FFC had a great outing at the Orchill Trout Fishery, near Braco, taking 56 fish for 152 lb, with the Pairs Trophy being won by Steven Leydon and Alan Weir with eight fish for 24lb 12oz on Dries.

THE coarse loch is performing well at the Glen of Rothes fishery, near Elgin, with the bulk of the bags coming from close in around the margins to those fishing with sweetcorn, small pellets and maggots using method feeders.

The fish are a good size with bream over 2lb and big ide, too, are featuring in the catches.

The carp are breaking quite a few hearts but Gavin Miller had over 16lb of fish for his outing.
