Peace to break out between women and SFA

- By Alan Campbell sport@sundaypost.com

BOTH sides in the on-going dispute between Scotland’s women footballers and the Scottish FA are hopeful an agreement can be brokered this week.

The dispute, over terms and conditions, started on June 8.

It has caused Tuesday’s planned announcement of the Euro 2017 squad to be pushed back for seven days.

The SFA hope to have players present at the press conference and believe June 27 offers a more realistic prospect of that happening.

UEFA’ s deadline for squad registration for the Netherlands tournament is July 6, with Scotland’s final preparation match for the Euros being against the Republic of Ireland at Stark’s Park the following night.

The squad announcement will go ahead a week on Tuesday, regardless of whether the dispute is settled or not.

Two places are expected to be kept open until the last minute for Arsenal left-back Emma Mitchell and Manchester City central defender Jen Beattie, both of whom are injured.

The Scotland players stopped giving interviews and allowing photographs to be taken at training sessions the day before the 2-0 home win over Romania a week past Friday.

That continued into Tuesday’s 2- 0 defeat in Vaxjo, when Swedish media were denied access.

The players are also not co-operating with the SF A’ sin-house media operations, and it is understood they have pulled out of all sponsor- related activities.
