Director Jorge R Gutierrez and his team of animators opt for a jaunty, upbeat tone enhanced by a bouncy soundtrack of great cover versions.

Jane Fonda steals the limelight from Jennifer Lopez as a glamorous but unpleasant TV presenter who is distraught when she loses her job.

Making matters worse is her hunky son, who falls for a dog-walker. When they plan to marry, mum’s dislike of her prospectiv­e daughter-in-law comes to the fore.

A superhero movie which is as big and muscular as hammer-swinging hunk, ricochetin­g noisily between action, comedy and romance.

The crown prince of Asgard (Chris Hemsworth) is forced to turn to his nefarious brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), for help.

The Day The Earth Stood Still Film4, 12.30pm, Tuesday

In one of the best sci-fi movies ever made, an alien called Klaatu arrives in Washington to deliver an anti-nuclear warning.

The special effects may be dated but the story is excellent, and for many fans it leaves the remake light years behind.

The Man Who Knew Too Much

Film4, 4.20pm, Tuesday

Alfred Hitchcock directs the remake of his own 1934 thriller, with James Stewart and Doris Day taking on the roles previously played by Leslie Banks and Edna Best.

It improves on the gripping original. A bonus is Day’s performanc­e of Que Sera, Sera.

In Soviet-occupied Poland, officer Janusz (Jim Sturgess) is falsely incriminat­ed as a foreign spy and sent to a Russian gulag in Siberia.

Peter Weir directs a harrowing true story of courage and endurance against the odds during the Second World War.
