Charity single hits top spot
SIMON COWELL’S Grenfell Tower charity single has claimed the 10-year record for sales on an opening day.
The single sold more than 120,000 copies on its first day of release – and had hit 170,000 sales after just two days.
It shot to number one, successfully knocking Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber off the top spot.
The song has also become the second fastest selling single of the year just behind Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You.
The charity single is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and features 50 of Britain’s leading musicians – including Robbie Williams, Emile Sande, Leona Lewis and James Blunt.
