Crumbs! What a biscuity pong

FOR years, fake tanners have had to put up with the fumes of that distinctive “biscuity” smell.

Some people describe it as akin to digestive biscuits, for others it’s more like curry, old socks or even eau de wet dog.

If you’ve used fake tan, you’ll know if you can smell it an hour after application, your bedroom will probably stink the next morning. So, why the stench? The odour is caused by the presence of Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which gives tanning products their colour.

But manufacturers are trying to find ways to improve it, by masking the scent or finding other smells which work with it to improve the pong.

But the reality is that you’ll still be left with that whiff to some degree.
