THE Pennell Duckfly is tied on a size-12 Kamasan B175 hook using black UTC 70 thread.

The body is black seal’s fur, ribbed with silver tinsel, and the wing is golden pheasant tippets dyed orange. The pattern is finished with a head hackle of Black Metz hen.

THE angling clubs have been out in force at the Frandy Fishery, in Gleneagles, with the Dundee AC keeping 31 fish weighing 63lb 15oz, Police Scotland West took 55 fish weighing 121lb 7oz, Doune AC had five fish weighing 12lb 8oz, Falkirk Municipal AC kept 22 fish weighing 41lb and Ayr Travelers A had four fish weighing 9lb 12oz and released 88.

The top-taking flies and lures included the Black Hopper, Daddy Longlegs, Kate Maclaren, Sedge Muddlers, Claret Bumble and the Sedgehog.

THE more-overcast days at Swanswater, near Stirling, saw great action especially for the brown trout with wets, nymphs, buzzers and dries taking fish close to the surface.

Top catches included Frank Barr from Falkirk with three for 13lb – including a 7lb 7oz rainbow – plus five on C&R and Carlo Pezzani (Tullibody) took three for 12lb – including a 7lb 12oz rainbow.
