The Sunday Post (Newcastle)

MY granny tells me she used to enjoy a little bottle of a drink called Pony now and again in her youth. Can you tell me any more? – G.

Popular in the 1970s, Pony was a British sherry made from concentrated grape juice, sugar and base alcohol.

It was sold in small bottles, similar in size to Babycham, and was advertised with the slogan: “The little drink with a big kick”.
