Brexit brings big bids on British Dinky toys

-

HUNDREDS of Dinky Toys are set to sell for a total of more than £ 150,000 as British collectors reap the benefits of a post- Brexit weak pound.

Andrew Reed, of Vectis Auctioneers, says the drop in the value of sterling has meant there has been a huge surge of interest from foreign buyers.

And the auction house’s latest collection is expected to attract bids from all over the world.

It will go under the hammer on September 6 and includes 730 lots made between 1948 and the 1960s.

Prices are expected to start at around £150 and go up to £ 7000 depending or rarity and condition.

Among the most expensive of the toys is a Dinky Foden Truck, whose cab is the first ever of its type to be made and is expected to sell for around £5000.

Other lots include a Layland Octopus Truck, expected to sell for around £2500, and a Jaguar car with estimates ranging from £200 to £3000.

Mr Reed, cataloguer and auctioneer at Vectis, added: “Around 90% of our toys sell to collectors and more than 50% will travel to different parts of the world.

“We are hoping this particular collection will exceed expectations and sell for more than £150,000.”

Dinky Toys were made in Liverpool from 1934 to 1979 and are now highly collectable.
