Are you happy with your pension pot?

-

HUGE numbers of workers dip into pension pots before retiring, regulators have said. Rule changes mean people can access the cash early – but may risk future financial health if they do. We asked our Email Jury whether they are happy with the state of their pension. And do they wish they’d saved more when you were younger? Also, what advice would they give to younger people for the future?

If you are working always take the advantage of a pension fund. Retirement may seem a long way away, but believe me it comes quicker than you think and it’s best to be prepared. James Brown, Whitburn.

I am already a pensioner and didn’t have the choice which is available now. However, I was always aware I had to provide for my retirement and would not have dipped into my pension pot early. Liz Kelly, Glasgow.

I definitely wish I had saved more but when you are young you never think of pensions. Our state pension is the worst in Europe. Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh.

I’m actually very lucky as most of it comes from Bermuda where I spent most of my working life and I chose a smaller lump sum and a larger pension. Fortunately, neither my wife or I have an expensive lifestyle, so, while we’re certainly not “rolling in it”, I’d describe us as comfortably off. Davie Kerr, Lochaber.

I don’t think I should have saved more, as it would have affected my standard of living in years gone by. Bea Smith, Doncaster.

I have often wished I had put more into a pension. The irony is I worked selling insurance for 12 years! Maurice Benham, Bonnybridge.

I would say invest in your future. When I was young, £20 per week was a fortune, but by

the time you come to retiring it is a pittance! Hamilton Mclean,

Harwood.

I am not happy with my pension. Why save more when some government decides to raid the pension pot and we all lose, apart from public sector workers? Spend your money and forget about the future. Bob Duncan, Carnoustie.

We are content with our pension. It would be easier if we had saved more but you have to enjoy yourself when you are young. James Plenderleith, Edinburgh.
