QUEEN’S PARK brushed aside the challenge of Edinburgh City 3- 0 in what was the SPFL’s newest club’s first- ever tr ip to the National Stadium.

Ashley Grimes came close to giving the visitors the lead on 11 minutes with a fierce drive from the edge of the box but Bryan Wharton stuck out a boot to clear the ball away.

The Hampden side took the lead on 20 minutes when Thomas Orr was forced wide of goal by City goalkeeper Callum Antell.

He then slipped the ball to Sean Burns, who picked out Dom Docherty a couple of yards out and he tapped home.

Orr rattled the bar before the break and came close at the start of the second half.

However, the second goal for the hosts arrived on 55 minutes.

Again Orr was involved as he sent over a wellstruck cross that was turned into his own net by Chris McKee.

City’s day worsened as new recruit Zdravko Karadachi was carried off on a stretcher.

Then, on 62 minutes, Anton Brady sent over a chipped cross from the left that dropped into the net via the far post.

Queen’ s substitute Ewan MacPherson was denied a last-gasp memorable goal when his overhead kick came back off a post.
