TWO goals from the returning Garry Thompson gave Morecambe a dramatic 2-1 victory over Cheltenham.

Thompson, who rejoined the club in the summer after nine years away, made a telling debut with a 90th-minute winner to give the Shrimps a winning start to the season.

Jim Bentley’s side had to come from behind after Mohamed Eisa gave the Robins the lead two minutes from the break.

Thompson slid in a 56th-minute leveller, before volleying home Vadaine Oliver’s headed cross to take the point.

Luke Joyce scored a consolatio­n for Carlisle as they were sunk 2-0 at home by Swindon.

After Jamie Devitt hit a post for the hosts, goals from Luke Norris and Paul Mullin either side of halftime put the visitors two goals to the good,

Joyce replied in the 55th minute, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Accrington Stanley celebrated a 3-1 victory over Colchester, with debutant Kayden Jackson and Billy Kee netting first-half efforts.

Omar Beckles put the game beyond the visitors’ reach after the break, although Sammy Szmodics got a consolatio­n for Colchester after 82 minutes.

Goals from Nathan Clarke, Sam Jones and Ben Davies (penalty) handed Grimsby a 3-1 win at Chesterfie­ld, for whom Kristian Dennis replied.

Last season’s National League champions Lincoln earned a point in a 2-2 draw at Wycombe, thanks to Josh Ginnelly’s second-half leveller, Forest Green also drew 2-2, at home to Barnet, while James Collins scored a hat-trick as Luton thrashed Yeovil 8-2.
