Dom was caught in a cop car dilemma
DOM LITTLEWOOD found himself closer to the action than he could possibly have imagined for his latest series.
Called Dom On The Spot, the BBC series looks at those who hand out fines across the country.
More of those fines than ever, for hundreds of new offences, are being handed out and the series follows those on the front line.
They’re the men and women responsible for enforcing the law when it comes to fare-dodging and road tax evasion, flytipping, dog fouling, noisy neighbours, dodgy HGVs and much more.
And Dom, a familiar face from consumer series such as Fake Britain, had a close-up look at the drama that can unfold.
“I was in an unmarked police motor when this car came past, being driven a bit stupidly,” explained Dom.
“One of the lads flicked what looked like it could have been a joint out of a window.
“The police followed and what could have just been an £80 on-the-spot penalty for ended up as much more.
“It turned out this guy was wanted it two counties for two different burglaries.
“The officer had him handcuffed in the back of the car and went to tell his friends to go home.
“I was beside the car and – his handcuffs were in front not at the back – I saw him pull a big pack of pills from his pants.
“In a moment of madness, he was trying to swallow the whole bagful before the policeman searched him.
“I shouted to the officer who rushed over and stopped him but he’d consumed quite a few. “He ended up in A&E having his stomach pumped and then in court.
“And all for something silly like throwing a cigarette butt out of a car.”
