Suranne is just what the Doctor ordered

EVER had friends round for dinner and had it go horribly, spectacularly, awfully wrong?

Well, ever since THAT dinner party at the end of the last series of Doctor Foster we’ve been waiting to see what happened next.

Two long years have passed since the last surgery – and within moments, we knew it had been worth the wait.

Red envelopes dropped through everyone’s door, announcing the return of cheating husband Simon, his youthful new wife and their toddler.

What an appropriate colour. Gemma’s son’s invite to the welcome home wedding bash was like a red flag to a bull to Suranne Jones’s scorned medic.

“It might be good having him back,” she said, with all the conviction of someone contemplating root canal treatment without anaesthetic.

We knew it really wasn’t going to be, especially when she started swigging the wine. Straight from the bottle.

You can’t take your eyes off the Jones girl. From barmaid in Corrie to copper in Scott & Bailey, Suranne’s always been good. Here’s she’s unmissable. Burning with rage, seething with disgust, you just don’t know what she’s going to do next.

At the end of one of their jaw-clenchingly tense standoffs Simon smirked (he’s gone from deviously sneaky to downright sneery) that the only way he was leaving this time was in a coffin.

“That’s good to know,” Foster said.

Welcome back, doc.

A troubled private eye who only stops drinking to have another fag.

A pretty secretary won over to being his smart sidekick.

It’s so hackneyed it really shouldn’t work - but it does.

Next case, please!
