I love the Caribbean... but Santorini is magic

- With Ester Dohnalova By Bill Gibb

ESTER DOHNALOVA, 32, is one of the stars of ITV’s Real Housewives Of Cheshire.

Ester moved to the UK from the Czech Republic in 2003 with just £40 in her pocket and dreams of starting a new life. She has established herself as one of the most colourful characters of the reality show.

Now reconciled with her husband, she has a young daughter Roberta.

WHEN I was a child we simply didn’t have the money to go on holiday.

It was a luxury we couldn’t afford, so having as many as I want now is a real dream.

I love the Caribbean and have been a couple of times recently. The food is always gorgeous, the portions are large and the people are so friendly.

I went to the Bahamas with my mum and then to Aruba with my mum and my daughter.

In the Bahamas, it was the allinclusive Sandals resort and I thought it was pretty good value.

Aruba had a fabulous beach but after running round with my daughter every day I almost felt like I needed another holiday!

I went to Mauritius with my husband – and he just loves to spend, spend, spend.

We flew first class and, honestly, you could buy a small house back home for what that cost.

It’s a nice experience, but I really don’t think it’s necessary. I’m quite happy without it, unlike my husband.

If he went on a plane and didn’t turn left into first class, he’d absolutely hate it. I reckon turning right is pretty normal.

I’d rather go into economy and spend a bit more on the hotel.

The one other place I really love is Santorini in the Aegean. It’s a magical place for me.

There seemed to be a lovely mix of cultures and you had the feeling that you could get away from it all so easily.

It really was just like I imagined a Greek island to be – all whitewashed villages and pretty villas.

When you wake up in the morning to another gloriously sunny sky and tuck into a lovely, healthy breakfast you just know it’s going to be a great day.

The temptation, of course, is to laze around and do nothing but we actually got round a lot of different places.

I’d happily go back – although obviously not with my ex-partner!
