Wood-n’t it be nice to live here?

Oak-framed country house in Ayrshire is one of Scotland’s bonniest

- By Sally McDonald

GADGIRTH is a home with a wooden heart – but it beats with style and warmth.

This spectacular oak-framed modern country house on the banks of the River Ayr was once voted in the top 25 most beautiful homes in Scotland. And it’s easy to see why. Set in 10 acres of breathtaking Ayrshire countryside, Gadgirth House was constructed with a green oak frame by award-winning tradesmen in 2005. It has an impressive indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym and a spa pool on its outside terrace.

Inside, the property oozes opulence, having been extensively refurbished by its current owners.

They tell iN10: “Our first impression of Gadgirth was that it was very tranquil – a great looking house in a fantastic setting.

“We lived in the city previously and still work there, but we now have a more relaxing setting away from work. “

It was the natural heart of the home that truly won them over.

“The oak timber frames and all the other natural features inside and outside the house impressed most,” they say.

“That, and the fact that despite the size of the grounds it is very low maintenance.”

But they could see room for improvement and set to work installing a chic, fully-fitted

designer kitchen and seven luxurious bathrooms to create their dream home.

Gadgirth makes a statement from the moment of arrival. Electric gates open on to a sweeping private driveway which leads into a courtyard with views over lawn and woodland.

The house (with a fully integrated security system) has been designed with a flexible layout which comprises an expansive reception hall, a formal lounge with access to the patio, and a fabulous “barn room” with feature fireplace, French doors to the garden and a gallery or library.

The bespoke open plan kitchen-cum-dining room overlooks south facing gardens and has two sets of French doors leading to the terrace.

Each of the home’s five sumptuous bedrooms is en suite. The master is on the first floor with access to the gallery. It boasts a dressing room and a stunning en suite with spa bath and “drench” shower.

But it is in the pool room, with its cavernous vaulted ceiling, 10m x 5m heated swimming pool and sauna, that the cares of the working day are effortlessly washed away.

And this house, which has a ground source heat pump for under floor heating, a double garage and beautiful grounds, also has single bank fishing rights.

Its owners are now moving abroad and are marketing the property with Corum for offers over £950,000.
