BLACKBURN enjoyed a comfortabl­e 3-0 victory against Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena.

Rovers took the lead in the 10th minute when Richie Smallwood volleyed Elliott Bennett’s cross past Brendan Moore from eight yards.

Rovers doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Dom Samuel’s goalbound header was deflected into Marcus Antonsson’s path off the back of Jim McNulty, and he stroked the ball home from seven yards.

The game was up in the 80th minute when Danny Graham added third.

Sub Ashley Hunter rescued a point for Fleetwood, with an injury-time penalty as the Cod Army drew 2-2 with strugglers Oldham.

Craig Davies fired Athletic ahead after 18 minutes, but Ashley Eastham replied six minutes later.

Kean Bryan’s goal then looked to have won it for Oldham, before Hunter’s late spot-kick denied the visitors a first win of the campaign.

Blackpool held on for a valuable point in a 0-0 draw at Scunthorpe, while goals from Jermaine Beckford and Nathan Cameron were not enough for Bury as they lost 3-2 at Rotherham, with sub Richie Towell firing home the winner in the last minute after Kieffer Moore’s earlier brace.

Stefan Payne’s first-half strike saw surprise-packages Shrewsbury go top as they beat Wigan 1-0.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbain­k’s Northampto­n tenure got off to the best possible start as Matt Crook scored after just 21 seconds as the Cobblers beat Doncaster 1-0.

Debutant goalkeeper Matt Ingram had to be sprightly on his feet to tip over a thunderous late strike from Ben Whiteman as Rovers threatened to level.
