Restaurant REVIEW

THE AVENUE, 177 KIRKINTILLOCH ROAD, BISHOPBRIGGS

-

1 Location

Right at Bishopbriggs Cross, a minute’s walk from the train station, on main bus routes and with car parking at a shopping centre directly opposite, so couldn’t be handier.

2 First impressions

It’s been revamped recently and is smart, sleek and modern. There’s a bar area at the front, with the restaurant to the rear. There’s definitely a quirky mirror theme going on with the decoration!

3 service

Faultless. We are particularly impressed when, despite having an iPad to hand, the waiter memorises the food and drinks orders perfectly.

4 menu

Good choice, plenty to give variety but not over complicated – pastas, burgers, steaks and enough more.

5 taste

The cheese and bacon burger is succulent and comes with a choice of skinny fries, hand-cut chips or sweet potato fries. The pollo ribieno is fully stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and perfectly moist.

6 price

All pretty reasonable, with mains averaging about £10 to £13 and desserts from £5 to £6.

7 ambience

Lovely and relaxed. It’s a Friday evening and it looks like the sort of place women in particular like to catch up with a pal at the end of the week. Nice touch as well with the cake celebration for the grandad’s birthday at the big family gathering.

8 something speciaL

The white chocolate box was light as anything, with surprise raspberry hidden inside. The decoration on the plate looked as good as it tasted with swirls of chocolate and raspberry sauces and a biscuity crumb.

9 toiLets

Clean and smart.

10 verdict

There’s a new steak house next door and a wellestablished, popular Italian next to that, so the Avenue has to be up to the mark to compete. It does so commendably.
