New Saints brush aside challenge from Elgin

-

Welsh champions The New Saints brushed aside Elgin City 4-0 at Park Hall Stadium to reach the quarter-finals.

Last season’s semi-finalists advanced to the last eight without any trouble, having been in front by three goals at half-time.

Greg Draper hit a double, while Aeron Edwards and Jamie Mullan were also on target in an extremely one-sided tie.

A goal five minutes into time added on from Logan Chalmers gave Dundee United a 1-0 victory over Irish visitors Linfield in front of 1967 spectators.

Stephen Baxter’s Crusaders saw off Highland Legue side Cove Rangers with a comfortable 3-0 win in Scotland.

Crusaders took the lead just before the interval when Michael Carvill nipped in ahead of the static Cove defence to lob over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The Crues’ challenge was then boosted further in the second half when their hosts were reduced to 10 men.

Scott Ross was shown the red card with 55 minutes played after his second bookable offence.

Crusaders went two goals up when Jamie Glackin netted, scoring from close range to put the visitors in the driving seat.

The Crues put the gloss on things at the end, with Declan Caddell netting to see off the home side’s challenge in convincing fashion.
