We couldn’t be united

Klopp hits out after Mourinho parks the bus at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp insists that Jose Mourinho’s defensive tactics would not be acceptable at Liverpool.

Manchester United parked the bus and got a goal-less draw at Anfield yesterday, leaving the German less than impressed.

“I think Man. United came here for the point, and they got it,” said Klopp (right). “I’m sure that you could not do this at Liverpool.

“Obviously for Man. United it is OK. But that’s completely fine.

“They wanted a point so they are happy – and we are not happy because we wanted three.”

“They defended with nine players around the box. I don’t judge this, but it makes our job more difficult.

“We were dominant but it was a home game, and we should be dominant.

“Our performance was worth three points. We were the better side.”

Jurgen Klopp insisted that Jose Mourinho’s defensive tactics would not be acceptable at Liverpool after Manchester United earned a goalless draw at Anfield for the second successive season.

Liverpool dominated possession, but could not break down United’s defence as Klopp’s men drew a third straight game.

“I think Man United came here for the point and they got it,” he said.

“I’m sure if we played like this, you could not do this at Liverpool. Obviously for Man United it is OK.

“Obviously they had a more defensive approach but that’s completely fine. They wanted a point so they are happy and we are not happy because we wanted three.

“We were dominant, but it was a home game and we should be.

“Maybe we didn’ t create enough chances, but that is to concentrate on the negative. We have to stay positive and the boys gave me enough reasons to stay positive.

“We learned a lot from the last game at Newcastle and we protected our offensive situations much better.

“We defended well against Lukaku, Mkhit a ryan, Young, Rashford. The performance was not perfect otherwise we would have won, but we had the big chance and maybe got a penalty and it’s 2- 0. How big a result do you want against Manchester United?

“There are no games when your opponents sleep for 90 minutes and you can do what you want.

“They defended with nine players around the box. That’s OK, I don’t judge this, but it makes our job more difficult.

“But we played our football. You can’t buy easy goals in football, you have to work for them and I was really happy that the boys were really ready for this game.

“You can’ t win something when you are in a holiday mood, but we aren’t in a holiday mood and we are really working hard.

“I really like how they handled this situation. Could they have done better? Yes, but is it really likely we could have done much better.

“My job is to ask what I can get, not for them to play like Barcelona. I want them to play as well as they can and that’s what they did.

“It’s only not good if you look at the table and say we can’t do this or that any more.

“There was supposed to be one team in this stadium that can win the title, but it’s not like we are on different planets.

“I am happy about the consistency of performance. I think the performance was worth three points. We were the better side.”
