Mikael is glad Robben will be KT’s problem

Mikael Lustig is hoping that flying Dutchman Arjen Robben won’t be in the mood to make up for international disappointment when Celtic take on Bayern on Wednesday.

33- year- old Robben announced last week that his 96th cap for Holland would be his last, after Dick Advocaat’s side failed to reach the World Cup play-offs.

However, having witnessed his farewell display at close range, as part of a Sweden side which went down 2-0 yet still managed to book their place in Tuesday’s draw, Lustig is in no doubt the winger still has plenty to offer the club game.

“I saw Robben last Tuesday night when I played for Sweden against Holland,” he said.

“He scored two goals, so it looks like he’s in form, doesn’t it?

“He’s looking really good and he’ll be a big threat for Bayern against us.

“In his career, he has been injured a lot. But when he has played, performing his best football, he’s world class – one of the best wingers there has ever been.

“That left foot, you know he is going to go inside but you can’t stop it. He normally curls it into the far post – we’ve seen it so many times.

“When he’s on top form, he is one of the best around.

“I’m glad he’s on the other side of the pitch from me! But that’s a great challenge for Kieran Tierney.

“What can I tell Kieran about Robben? Get to him early, but if he gets the speed up it’s very hard.

“I say that because he can go either way, on the left or right foot. And you hope to get a midfielder across to help out.

“KT is a very calm and composed individual, though, so I am sure he will be fine. What he has done for Celtic and Scotland in the last few years has been incredible.”

The Hoops will go in as huge underdogs, but Lustig intends to relish the experience.

“I’ve never played at the Allianz Arena so this will be my first time. It’s huge, one of the best stadiums in the world right now,” he said.
