JINTANA THAI, BOWNESS-ON-WINDERMERE

-

1 LOCATION

On Lake Road, right in the centre of town, at the top of the hill … easy to find but you’ll need to work off those calories before you eat them.

2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

We were lucky to get a table as the restaurant was very busy. Authentic Thai décor and relaxing soft music give this small venue a nice cosy feel.

3 SERVICE

Precise and pretty swift. Drinks and dishes were delivered promptly to the table, but we didn’t feel rushed.

4 MENU

The extensive menu will leave you spoilt for choice. The Thai curries and stir fries can be served with chicken, beef, pork, duck, lamb or a range of seafood. There’s also a healthy variety for vegetarians. In fact, you can pick from nine different types of rice.

5 TASTE

The food is simple and sensational – but surprisingly spicy. The Penang Gai was delicious, but had us reaching for glasses of water and even the green curry which the waitress said was “mild” had a bit of a kick. Portion sizes perhaps weren’t as big as expected, but sufficient. The king prawn blankets were a delight to start and the banana spring roll dessert was out of this world.

6 PRICE

We just missed it, but the restaurant does an early bird special which is great value at two courses for £12.95 or three for £14.95. Our bill for two from the à la carte menu with drinks came in at a reasonable £46.

7 AMBIENCE

Relaxed, friendly and welcoming.

8 SOMETHING SPECIAL

The drinks menu includes a range of cocktails which you can have with or without alcohol. And those Thai prawn crackers with a hint of spice. You get them with every Thai meal, but they’re so addictive.

9 TOILETS

Nothing to write home about but clean and well stocked.

10 VERDICT

We would definitely go back. 15/20
