Seize the momentum: Levein wants

Craig Levein wants to have Tynecastle bouncing by the time road-weary Hearts roll back into their revamped home.

The former Scotland boss saw Jambos’ hero Jamie Walker seal a vital win in the Highlands as 10-man Jambos stood firm under a late barrage.

Levein craves momentum in this season of extended away trips before the consecutive Edinburgh-based matches now lying in store through to the second half of December.

Three capital dates – against St Johnstone and Rangers at Murrayfield, either side of an Easter Road visit – will be prelude to the homecoming against Kilmarnock on November 5th.

Levein said: “Tynecastle is the place we pick up most points.

“I want to try and get us into a bit of momentum before we go back there.

“Today was good. I was, overall, really pleased with the way we played.

“We’re not on a roll yet, but for long spells in the first half I felt we were doing the things I hope we will do week-in and week-out.”

Esmael Goncalves had fired the visitors ahead in the first half only to see the lead quickly wiped out by teenager Davis Keillor-Dunn.

However, Walker’s 60th minute rocket into the roof of the net proved enough for victory.

All-in-all, it was a satisfying day for the Jambos, fresh from learning of hefty cash losses from an on-line banking sting.

Walker’s endeavours had begun to give Hearts the upper hand in the first period with Goncalves just failing to connect properly with his dangerous cross after 17 minutes.

A minute later, Walker buzzed into space and thrashed a 25-yard shot just over the County bar, with Cowie flashing a low attempt wide soon after.
