Pittodrie star confident Del will stay put

Aberdeen fans fear losing Derek McInnes to Rangers.

But Dons star Scott Wright won’t lose any sleep – because he believes McInnes will stay at Pittodrie.

Wright revealed Aberdeen’s players found it easy to blank speculation over their gaffer’s future during yesterday’s win. That’s because McInnes has never broached the subject with his squad.

Even so, Wright, who has just penned a new contract until 2021, is hopeful Del will stay in the Granite City for the foreseeable future.

“It was easy to block the speculation out. It wasn’t talked about,” said Wright.

“He hasn’t mentioned it and nobody expected him to.

“It’s no surprise he’s being linked with other clubs because he’s a brilliant manager and he’s done a brilliant job here.

“There will always be speculation but he’s said before he’s still got a job to do here. Everyone wants him to stay because we love playing under him.

“The manager has been a massive part of my career since I came to the club fulltime. He’s been brilliant for the club and for me.

“I hope he stays and I’m fairly confident he will.

“I signed a new contract because I want to work with him. That was a big factor in signing on again.

“The fans love him here as well, which is massive for him, but it’s not something anyone has spoken about.”

Meanwhile, McInnes hailed Kenny McLean for inspiring the Dons to victory over County, and cutting Celtic’s lead at the top of the Premiership to just one point.

McInnes said: “There were some good performances today but I thought McLean was excellent again.

“The whole team deserve a lot of credit because losing as we did to Celtic was a realy sobering experience.

“When you come off the back of that defeat, it’s all about winning.

“On Thursday and Friday coming in, we made sure they were lifted and positive with their work to get ready to go again today.

“I’m immensely proud of the players to get the three points and back to winning ways. Hopefully that will start us on another run.”
