Still miss Dad many years on

-

Dear June

I AM 82 years old but still remember the day I was told that our father would not be returning home from the war.

Mum took on a few jobs to make ends meet.

After all these years I still miss him.

Have my mum and sister found him?

Will he be there for me after all this time?

Irene, Livingston.

June Says

It must have been extremely hard for you and your sister to be told such devastating news at such a young age, so it’s not surprising you remember that day.

It would have been heartbreaking for your mum to break the news to both of you.

It would also have been such a worrying time for her as she tried to support her family alone while grieving for your father.

Irrespective of how much time passes after a loss, the love, connection, bond and responsibility they hold for you can never be broken.

You are still his little girl, even at 82 years old. Loving parents care and worry about their children no matter what age they become!

Caring parents also have a built-in love and responsibility to carry out through the love of their children that continues on after the physical death.

I have no doubt they will all be there to meet you.

Your dad will also be there to collect the daughter he has loved and watched over from the very day she was born.
