Jambo Souttar holds his hands up over Miller

- By Danny Stewart sport@sundaypost.com

Hearts defender John Souttar last night held his hands up to take a share of the blame for his side’s defeat.

The Scotland Under-21 internationalist deflected Kenny Miller’s shot past his own goalkeeper at Rangers first goal and then lost the striker at their second.

“It was probably my fault for the second goal. I’ve let Kenny peel off me, and I should have got tighter.

“He’s taken his goals well and he’s a good player, isn’t he?

“We knew that was coming. As soon as their manager left, you knew he would be back in. It definitely gave them a lift having him in the team.

“Again, it was down to us, though, that they won the game. So it was a frustrating day for us.

“I thought we did well in the first half, we took the lead with a good goal from Kyle Lafferty and I thought we dominated.

“It could have been two or three, and I don’t think they could have complained.

“They got the equalising goal, but I thought we come out well in the second half until 60 minutes, and then we were poor.

“We lost JamieWalker around the hour mark and I think any team that loses someone of his quality will feel it.

“He is a huge influence on us going forward and taking the ball when we’re under pressure, he drives us up the park. “He definitely helps us. “There are big misses for us in the midfield just now. Don Cowie and Arnaud Djoum are leaders, both are internationals, so any team would miss them.

“I thought Harry Cochrane and Lewis Moore came in and did well. It’s not their fault we lost today. It was down to the more experienced ones around them.”

Souttar, meanwhile, is counting down the days until November 19 and the return to the revamped Tynecastle for a home game against Partick Thistle.

“Everyone is desperate to get back there, not only the team on the pitch, but the fans and the club in general are desperate to get back,” he said.

“To be fair Murrayfield is a great venue when there are a lot of people in. Obviously today wasn’t so great for us, but the Aberdeen game, especially, showed what a good venue it can be.”
