Scramble! Former control tower is now a dream home

-

It offers spectacular views – and is much more peaceful than when it was originally built.

For this stunning family home was originally an RAF control tower, and its windows would have been regularly rattled by the roar of Rolls-Royce Merlin fighter plane engines.

The house, in Clathymore, Perthshire, dates from 1941 when it was built at what was then the RAF Findo Gask fighter base.

The airfield was used to train pilots and at one point housed a squadron of US-built P-51 Mustang fighters.

Following an extensive renovation the family home, which is on the market for £1.25 million, comes with an open “top deck” and panoramic views over the countryside, with the north side windows looking over where the three grass runways once stood.

An intercom system, intruder alarm, fire alarm, CCTV and electric gates are also included in the sale of “The Control Tower”.

Sellers Clyde Property describe the building as “arguably one of the rarest homes to come to the Scottish market.”

They add the house “has been completed to a level allowing potential purchasers the opportunity to work with the builders and discuss the interior specification and design to satisfy individual requirements, thus creating a truly unique and bespoke home.”
