SUNDAY RACING

Jennie Candlish knows the time of day and she might have something pretty good in her Vinnie Roegelding, Quick Pick, at Leicester today.

An Irish point winner in March, he ran a nice race at Ayr in October when three-and-a-half lengths second to Nicky Richards’ novice, Better Getalong.

There was clear evidence of the high regard Richards applies to Better Getalong when he was sent to Cheltenham two weeks ago.

His third, beaten fourand-a-quarter lengths by Slate House, points to a bright future for Quick Pick starting, hopefully, this afternoon.

Harry Whittington runs Octagon in a seller again, after he took a similar event at Southwell a month ago, and he does seem a little above that grade.

Ahead of that Southwell win, he was second in a Class 4 handicap hurdle, beaten one-and-a-quarter lengths by Furiously Fast.

That winner has since been second in a Class 2 handicap and won a Ffos Las novice hurdle, so there may well be some bids if he wins today.

Knocknamona swept to a comfortable 14-length victory at Uttoxeter last Sunday, after a long spell in the doldrums over fences.

M icky Hammond switches him back to hurdles, with Alain Cawley up and off a mark of 84. That will be lenient by the time he is reassessed, so he must have a big chance.
