The year of the blunders, twins ... and scandal
That horrible moment when Warren Beatty read out the wrong winner at the Oscars.
E’RE knee-deep in wrapping paper, have had too much Baileys at the office Christmas Party and haven’t seen the sun since the second week in November.
That’s right, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
As if all that wasn’t enough you have to wade through people like me rounding up their favourite moments of 2017.
The 2018 awards season kicks off in a couple of weeks with the Golden Globes – and I’m not here next week as I’m in highintensity training for them.
By that I mean I’ve looked out the trouser press from the airing cupboard and I’m carb-loading on Christmas pudding.
Last year I crammed in the Globes, the BAFTA Tea Party, and the Oscars before the middle of February.
My Oscar tips were spot on, I even predicted La La Land would win Best Movie. Which it did . . . for two minutes. Remember the mix-up when Warren Beatty wrongly announced it had won instead of Moonlight?
In May we were all shaken to the core when a bomb went off at American pop singer Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester.
Incredibly, she returned to the city two weeks later for a concert which raised £10million for the families of those affected. Ariana was such a star that night.
George Clooney became a dad in June. His missus Amal gave birth to twins, Ella and Alexander.
George told me his new bairns were developing British accents because they’re being raised in the UK.
He said he was on the lookout in case they started talking like me. That’ll depend on whether you raise them in both Knightswood and Hollywood, George!
Twins must be in fashion, as Beyonce and Jay Z welcomed a pair, Rumi and Sir, to the world. The last time someone said “Rumi, Sir?” to me he was trying to sell me a pair of baggy pants.
Hollywood probably changed forever following the news in October about Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault scandal.
He was one of the most powerful men in the industry, and people are expecting things to change as a result of the accusations made against him, and the likes of Kevin Spacey.
I had to laugh at the number of famous folk who suddenly found their voice…once Weinstein had been fired. Good old Hollywood. I’ll be back in a fortnight with a look ahead to some of the highlights of 2018.
