Britain’s Favourite Dogs: top 100 (stv)

I have a confession to make – I’m puppy broody.

But my partner’s allergies have put a tight leash on my dreams of being a dog owner for now.

So watching Britain’s Favourite Dogs was a bit like watching The Great British Bake Off on the Atkins diet.

Actually, other than GBBO, you probably couldn’t find a more typically British show given we are a nation of dog lovers.

The two-and-a-half-hour marathon counted down our top 100 breeds.

The list included new crossbreeds, including chorky, jorky, sproodle, puggle and cavapoo… honestly, who comes up with these?

We also heard some heartwarming tales from proud owners about their heroic hounds.

Even Prince Harry appeared with an amazing charity assistance dog that helped an Invictus Games hero live with his injuries.

Although his gran would be quite miffed that her beloved corgi only made it to No 82.

In the end, the lovable Labrador was named top dog, followed by mixed breeds.

Just last week a dog charity in Glasgow with too many dogs to take care of was pleading for foster owners.

Hopefully this canine celebration could inspire more pet adoptions.

But remember – a dog is for life, not just prime-time TV specials.

the Mash report (ChanneL 4)

What with Brexit, Trump, May, North Korea and the new recipe of Irn Bru, 2018 feels like it could go either way.

So I’m thrilled Nish Kumar is back with his side-splitting, satirical take on it all. Cue more daft headlines like: “Public desperate to know back-story of bus drivers who didn’t wave at each other.”
