Millwall still in the hat after Rochdale draw

- By Matt Wright SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Ben Thompson’s 90th-minute equaliser salvaged a 2-2 draw for Millwall against League One strugglers Rochdale in what was a gripping tie in the fourth round of the FA Cup at The Den.

The Lions, quarter- finalists in last season’s competition, were on the brink of being the victims of a shock, with the Dale making light of the 32 league places between the two teams.

Matt Done’s goal put them agonisingly close to reaching the fifth round for just the third time in their history, but they will get a second crack in 10 days’ time.

Millwall had taken the lead after 16 minutes from a Jed Wallace penalty after Fred On ye din ma was fouled by Donervon Daniels in the box, but Rochdale replied through an Ian Henderson strike.

Rochdale began the second half on top, and deservedly took the lead when Andy Cannon’s cross fell to Done, who tapped in on the line.

This stunned Millwall into action, but Rochdale continued to hold firm. Just when it looked as if the visitors would hold out, the Lions rescued a replay when Thompson swept in Steve Morison’s cross at the near post.

Maxime Biamou’s second-half winner saw 1987 FA Cup winners Coventry cause a minor upset and progress into the fifth round with a 1- 0 win over League One strugglers MK Dons.

Fast becoming one of this season’s memorable FA Cup stories, the Sky Blues saw off Premier League Stoke to make it to this stage and they were backed by almost 8000 travelling supporters.

Mark Robins’ side started on the front foot and went close after 23 minutes when Biamou’s powerful drive forced Dons keeper Lee Nicholls into a testing save.

Coventry winger Tom Bayliss was next to threaten an opener shortly after halftime when he cut inside onto his right foot but fired agonisingly wide.

The visitors did snatch the winner just after the hour through Biamou’s third goal of the season, and his second in as many games.

Ethan Ebanks- Landell failed to clear his lines for MK and the French forward gleefully poked in from close range to put Coventry into the fifth round for the first time in nine years.
