Last-gasp Leitch-Smith breaks

- By Brian Fowlie sport@sundaypost.com

Neil McCann can rarely have celebrated as wildly as he did when the referee finally blew the final whistle at Hamilton.

His Dundee side claimed the win with a goal in the eighth minute of added-on time.

It ended a run that had seen the Dark Blues lose to Accies in four consecutive games.

It was A-Jay Leitch-Smith whose winner sparked jubilant scenes in the away end.

McCann said: “Our play has deserved lots of points on many occasions when we haven’t got them, but that was a real good feeling.

“There is no better feeling, even if you win handsomely, than scoring right at the death.

“It deflates the opposition and you could see the wild celebrations.

“We were relentless in our push for the winner. We totally dominated the game.

“After David Templeton hit the post for them, there was only going to be one winner.

“They tried to waste time and kill the game. Their keeper got booked for it and, ironically, we scored the winner in one of the added-on minutes.

“I’m delighted for the team and the fans because we’ve found it tough against Hamilton in recent times.”

McCann acknowledged the difference that Scott Allan made to his team when he came off the bench.

The Dens Park gaffer challenged his player to display that ability more often.

He said: “When the play is stretched you can see how good he is on the ball and how purposeful he can be.
