Magath is just waiting for a call from SFA
Former Bayern Munich manager Felix Magath wants the job of Scotland manager.
The 64- year- old, who played for West Germany against the Dark Blues at the 1986World Cup Finals, has been in touch with the SFA to notify his interest.
A three-time Bundesliga winner as a coach, he is looking for work after being let go by Chinese Super League outfit, Shandong Lueng, at the end of November.
He was recently linked with the manager’s job at Rangers, a club he bought shares in three years ago.
Scottish- based agent, Derek Day, who has been working with Magath’s German representatives, said, “The SFA are aware that Felix would like to speak to them about becoming the new head coach.
“He has the skills, qualifications, experience, desire and track record in winning that would help Scotland move back up the way as an international team.
“He is just waiting on a phone call – and will be on the first flight over if it comes.
“Felix remembers playing against Scotland when they regularly got to World Cup Finals and had strong club sides in Europe.
“Something has obviously gone wrong, and he would like to help sort that.
“He has fixed issues at all the clubs he has been at, and would welcome the chance to now do that at an international level.”
Magath’s appearance against Scotland was in West Germany’ s 2-1 victory at the Mexico Finals in 1986.
It is a game best remembered here for the goal scored by the man he would be succeeding, Gordon Strachan, and the celebration which saw him put his foot up on an advertising board.
“West Germany went on to play in the World Cup Final that year against Argentina, however Scotland gave them a fright with Gordon’s scoring the first goal,” said Day.
“That was a huge game and the type of occasion that Felix would like to be involved in as an international manager.”
If successful, Magath would not, of course, be the first German to lead Scotland, with Berti Vogts having been in charge in an ill- fated spell from 2002 to 2004.
Meanwhile, Danny Wilson’ s move from Rangers to Colorado Rapids is expected to be completed this week.
The defender has completed his medical, and had earlier agreed terms and conditions with the MLS outfit.
Rangers would like to move Bruno Alves on, and he is keen to get regular football ahead of the World Cup.
But with his switch to Italian club Benevento falling through, time may run out on both parties.
